Weekend Update Logo

Good afternoon Knight Families:

Earlier today we held our ALiCE drill.  This drill is designed to help students be prepared in the event of a violent critical incident or man made disaster.  An example would be an active shooter.  ALiCE stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate.  The core foundation of ALiCE is the option to choose.  It isn’t a checklist that you work through, but deciding what is the best course of action to take in that specific situation. For the drill we had to make a few modifications in order to follow all of the COVID guidelines and still keep the integrity of the preparation.  Your student should be able to tell you more specifics about ALiCE.  We hope this is something that we never have to utilize.

Yesterday we took a little time out of our seventh hour and celebrated our cross country team and our seniors!  We had an all school assembly, 2020 style.  We tried a new way of presenting the assembly and had much greater success with it!  It is nice to be able to have all of us connected at the same time and celebrate our students’ accomplishments.

In December I will be looking for parent volunteers to serve on a committee that will be able to provide insight and advice on opportunities and challenges at the high school.  One example of this would be looking at ways for us to meet the criteria for the new College and Career Readiness Indicator on the Illinois State Report Card, reviewing our handbook and brainstorming ways to improve our high school. Watch for this invitation in December!

You may have heard, CUSD #305 is looking for your opinion regarding the facilities in our district.  Click the link to be able to share your thoughts and rate the thoughts of others.  The data will be collected and sorted to determine what the Knight communities see as the priorities for our district.

This will be the last weekly email until after the Thanksgiving Break.  We want to thank all of our families for their hard work in helping us through the semester.  We know it has been challenging for everyone.  We hope that you and your family will be able to have time to enjoy the break from our routines.  We plan to be back to our normal routines on Monday and our hope is to continue through to Christmas Break.
