Weekend Update Logo

Hello Knight Families:

A year ago in March, when the state closed us down, we were less than 24 hours from performing our school play. Of course at the time, we thought we were just postponing for a couple of weeks, never ever thinking it would need to be cancelled.  It is one of those moments that force us to not take advantage of the activities our students do.  This is one of the many reasons we are so excited to be presenting our school play this weekend!  Check Please debuted last night and has performances tonight and Saturday afternoon.  Tickets are still available at the door.  Our students have worked so hard and maneuvered all of the rules in order to put on this performance.  We are beyond excited to see them shine!

Speaking of students and their endless amounts of talent, Brooke Clark just learned that she placed first in the 19th District Americanism Essay Contest.  Her essay is headed on to the division level and she has been invited to read her essay at the district commander meeting later this month.  This essay topic was not a piece of cake.  The contest involves history and English and is always challenging.  This year’s title was, “How to promote old-fashioned patriotism while recognizing where we have fallen short’ and was chosen by the American Legion.  Students had just a couple of weeks to write the essay.  We wish Brooke the best of luck in the next steps of this contest and can’t wait to hear!

Have you heard about our CEO program?  This is a class that meets everyday from 7:15 AM - 9:00 AM with students from Sullivan High School, Arcola High School and Tuscola High School.  Students spend the first semester building a class business and the second semester building their own individual businesses.  Think dressing up everyday, writing a business plan and getting it approved by a banker, mentors and so much more.  Their capstone project is their trade show.  It is free and open to the public.  We would love to have you join us on Wednesday evening at Arcola High School. Come anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. to see what our students have created.

With May clearly flying by there is so much happening in and around the high school. In the next two weeks we have the CEO Trade Show, NHS Induction, Honor’s Night, the band and choral concert, 8th graders visiting, seniors heading to the grade schools  and an endless amount of baseball and softball games and track meets! It is a busy season, but certainly we love the opportunities we have for our students. We have listed a few of the upcoming dates, but also want to remind you to stay on top of our social media for those last minute announcements.

Finally, the grade school PTOs have asked for help in promoting their Give 5 for District 305 program.  (The high school is included in this program too!) Please see the link attached for more information about helping them reach their goal.
