Weekend Update 5/20

Hello Knight Families:

Oh so much has happened this week at ALAH …

On Tuesday evening we hosted the Spring Concert for our band and choral students and they did not disappoint.  The evening started with outstanding percussion performances, then the chorus presented songs from Rent and Hamilton and Maleha Roberts wowed us with a solo from Les Misérables. The band performed several numbers including The March of the Trolls and Shenendoah!  Families were able to attend and the gym was hot! There were multiple times throughout the concert that I fought tears for many reasons: listening to our talented students, the awe of  Mr. Wood and Mr. McClarey, and the reality of being able to gather again in this venue.  If you missed this event, I believe you can watch the recording on theroundtable.tv

Our Ag Mech class has spent months planning and building us an outdoor grill and we had our inaugural cookout on Wednesday by cooking ribeye sandwiches!  We also used our new grill for our senior cookout and we will use it next year for some of our activities.  The best part about the grill is each member of the class welded their name onto the bars.  And speaking of our ag classes, did you see our ‘Chick Cam’ this week?  Intro to Ag has been anxiously awaiting the hatching of our eggs and it happened this week!  We had 17 new babies between late Monday morning and early Wednesday!  Even some of our grade school buddies were able to watch online as they hatched.

Wednesday was our last day of classes for the Class of 2021. That sentence alone takes my breath away. It means the end of the year is here, but also means we are saying goodbye to our seniors.  On Thursday our seniors were able to go and visit their elementary schools. ( Did you catch all the great social media posts?)  After their visit they returned to the high school to have their individual formal graduation picture taken and then their official class picture.  We ended the day with a cookout in the circle drive with some special guests, teachers that have retired and knew the Class of 2021!  We were excited this week when Masterbrand offered to cater the cookout!  They chose one of our favorite neighbors, Pauly’s Barbecue! What a fantastic way to officially end their school year.

Tuesday and Wednesday are our final exam days. I am including the schedule below for exams as well as a few reminders.  Please call the office if you have any questions.  Final grades will be posted in your student’s Skyward account the first week of June.

  • Final exams are 20 % of a student’s semester grades.

  • Seniors must have at least an 80% combined Q3 and Q4 average to be exempt and in good standing with the school in order to not take their final exams.

  • Students must stay for the entire exam period.

  • Students are not required to stay for study hall on Wednesday, if they are in good standing.

And finally, I just want to thank all of you for partnering with us throughout the school year. I know it hasn’t been easy.  I know the phone calls telling you that your child needed to go home or be quarantined were not easy or fun.  I know remote learning was not easy or fun.  I know the constant schedule changes and all of our rules have not been easy or fun.  So next week once final exams are finished, I hope you will take time with your student to recognize what you and your student have accomplished!  Way back in August, I am not sure any of us truly believed we would make it … but we did it!  We are already planning our best year yet, the 2021-2022 school year! Enjoy your summer and we will see you on August 17th for the first day of school!

PS .. Don’t forget to watch your emails and our social media as we post information on everything from school registration (the week of June 7-11) softball, baseball and track news (we are expecting some conference championships and maybe regional championships and there is talk of a possible sectional championship) and of course any new updates from the state!
