ALAH Weekend Update Logo

Hello Knight Family:

We have gone from a short quick note last week to a novel this week!

First I want to highlight an opportunity and some incredible student volunteers that make our math and writing center happen everyday.  What is the math and writing center?  Great question.  The math and writing center is in the library every day during our 8th hour study hall.  It is staffed by two math and two English teachers as well as students from our junior and senior classes that are strong in math and/ or English.  Our students volunteer their time to help others. Students that need help with something small, like a problem or two, all the way to someone that needs help proofreading an essay can sign up for a time slot to go.  It is an amazing opportunity for any student to get help from a peer or a teacher. And a special thank you to all those students who volunteer their time.

This morning our National Honor Society added a new element to one of our favorite traditions of choosing the Rotary Student of the Month.  Students of the month are nominated by their teachers and this morning every student that was nominated was invited to breakfast.  This month 28 students were nominated.  After a feast of donuts and chocolate milk with the faculty, the September Student of the month was announced.  Congratulations to senior Daisy Taylor for being the ALAH Student of the Month for September!

If you haven’t followed us on social media, please take a moment to do this.  We try to regularly share events and activities that are happening and next week will be no exception with Homecoming being wrapped up into every moment of our week.  And, we have just added Instagram!  So make sure to follow us Facebook at Arthur CUSD #305, Twitter @ALAHKnights, and Instagram at alahknights.

The school is abuzz with Homecoming preparations. Student Council has planned a great week. We are all trying to keep in mind that this is the first Homecoming Week for our freshmen and sophomores that involves hallway and float decorating, a parade and of course a dance.  To say we are excited is an understatement.  Hallway and float building kicks off on Sunday and happens most evenings next week.

(Your student should be receiving many emails about opportunities to help.)  We also will have spirit days next week where we dress up according to the theme.

Thursday night is our bonfire at the practice football field at 8 p.m.  Then on Friday, we will have Homecoming games all morning and dismissal at 1 p.m. with the parade starting at 2 p.m. There will be a pork chop fundraiser dinner put on by the FFA and the Junior Class on Friday from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the Expo building behind the school. Cost is $8 for a sandwich, chips, brownie and water and you will pay at the door - no tickets necessary. There will be limited outdoor seating with to-go boxes available.

The football game starts at 7 p.m. Friday as we take on Sangamon Valley. During the game they will announce the winners of the float, hallway and spirit week!  The competition is steep! Then the big moment we have all been waiting for . . . the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night which will be held in the west parking lot under a tent. The photographer will begin taking pictures at 7pm for individual orders and coronation is at 7:30. The dance will be from 8-10:30. Cost is $10 per person and paid at the door. For more about all of the homecoming traditions at ALAH please check out the ALAH Hoco Traditions slideshow that was prepared for students by Student Council this week.

Plus we have golf, game club, volleyball, cheerleading, band, art club, cross country, soccer, and football all week!  I think I need a nap!  But really, we can hardly wait to get started.  I have tried to organize the details for you below, so we can all keep track.
