I want to thank my AHGS family for supporting our birthday bag drive! This is the third year our family has gathered birthday bags to help families give their child a special birthday. Today my family and I dropped off 152 bags! Our amazing birthday bag drive at AHGS hosted by our student council collected 1,240 birthday items which were made into 71 bags. $1,358.24 was raised from penny wars all to support Ainsley’s Birthday Bags. My family and I can’t thank you enough and you make me so proud! All of these special bags are at the Atwood Area Food Pantry which is open the fourth Saturday of every month. Each unique bag includes everything you need to celebrate; cake mix, icing, party supplies and an age appropriate gift. The food pantry is open to anyone and we hope these bags can be a blessing to those in our surrounding communities and district. ❤️, The Beck Family

We made it through the first full week of school! There was so much energy in the building and for the first time in a long time there were sounds of learning, laughing, and excitement! It has been an amazing week observing kids learning in an entirely different way than they are used to. Our teachers have transformed their classrooms into places that can reach students in person and remote at the same time. Our community has poured out support for our students and staff. What I have learned this week is that we can do this. We can provide a meaningful education to students in class and remote. We can work together with parents to provide for our students. We can overcome this pandemic we are in and make the best of the situation. We can succeed. I am excited to continue this journey. I cherish each day we have with our students in our building. I acknowledge the hard work our teachers are putting in to make this work. I see the parents working hard at home to help their kids stay connected. Keep up the great work! We are in this together! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

As the principal of Atwood-Hammond Grade School I want to take a moment to thank the dedicated teachers and staff that have been working day and night to prepare for the beginning of this school year. They are about to embark on a journey that none of them were prepared for. These teachers have embraced the challenge of not only teaching in person with numerous guidelines and restrictions, but also reaching students remotely. This is not an easy task, but I have full confidence that they will succeed. This community has been nothing but supportive during this whole process and I am sitting here tonight, the night before it all begins, to ask that you continue to show that support to our educators. Many times they are looked at as superheroes with all the answers. While I truly believe they are all heroes, I want to remind you that they are moms, dads, wives, husbands, caregivers, and teachers. They try to make the best choices for the situations they are in. We are ready for the school year! We are ready to come into the year with a positive outlook and we will make the best of this situation. I am so proud to be a Knight! #GoKnights

It's the last Monday of official Reflex posts. Reflex can be used all summer long your user names and passwords will still work so keep those facts fresh for next year by practicing at least once a week. I have a couple more guest players this week that have scores to share, so keep your eyes out. Today, a score from me.

May 10, 2020 Good Afternoon Atwood-Hammond Grade School families. The final meal and packet distribution will be Monday, May 11 from 9-11 am. The learning packets distributed this week will include your child's missing work and any final end of the year letters or information. All work needs to be returned at distribution on May 11. Teachers are basing the pass and incomplete grade on the completion of these work packets. Packets must be completed in order to receive a pass, otherwise it will be marked incomplete. If you are not picking up meals we ask that you come get your child’s updated learning packets and return completed work anytime from 3-5 pm on Monday, May 11. Place your child’s completed work in some sort of bag with their name, grade, and homeroom teacher on the front that would be wonderful. Remember, both procedures will be run as a drive through. Come into the East parking lot. A staff member will be out there to “check” you in and we will bring materials to your car. In order to practice social distancing we ask that you just open your trunk and we will place materials in the trunk. If we cannot get into your trunk we can place things in the backseat or hand them to you through the window. Please have your child’s completed work in a bag in the trunk or ready to hand through the window as well. We will make sure it gets to the correct teacher. Thank you for your cooperation in this process.

We made it to Friday! I have a most exciting story to share today. So I emailed Ironman and asked him if he would be a guest player on Reflex and send me a picture of his score in his mask. We'll, he emailed me back and said that the Joker took his mask and he's got Batman out trying to get it back. Then I get an email thay says, I heard about your Reflex score and after I repainted Ironman's mask I played for you. I saw your posts and I like the green lights. I hope there are a lot of green lights for me today. From, The Joker. The Joker got a pretty high score but he says get your green lights!! So let's see them.

Doesn't look like my photo fooled anyone, all those Ms. Arney guesses were right! I've been spending this time on Reflex getting my green light and high scores, helping with breakfast & lunches on Mondays, mowing my lawn, asking my kids if they have their school work done and, well the one thing that doesn't stop during quarantine, laundry.

May 3, 2020 Good Afternoon Atwood-Hammond Grade School families. Meal distribution will be Monday, May 4 from 9-11 am. The learning packets distributed this week will include your child's missing work. The remainder of this year will be spent completing the remote learning packets that have already been sent home and focusing on staying connected. If students have completed the work we ask that they still remain in communication with teachers and staff. Teachers will still be reaching out to students to check in and use this time to help focus on the social and emotional well being of our students. Teachers are basing the pass and incomplete grade on the completion of these work packets. Packets must be completed in order to receive a pass, otherwise it will be marked incomplete. Work will be returned for students to complete if it was turned in not finished. If you are not picking up meals we ask that you come get your child’s updated learning packets and return completed work anytime from 3-5 pm on Monday, May 4. Place your child’s completed work in some sort of bag with their name, grade, and homeroom teacher on the front that would be wonderful. Remember, both procedures will be run as a drive through. Friday, May 1st is School Lunch Hero Day. Over the past 5 weeks, your school cafeteria staff has been working tirelessly making sure your kiddos get fed in what has been uncharted and scary times for us as parents/guardians. In our area districts, we have provided upwards of 10,000 meals a week safely in a 1 or 2 day prep period. While the stay-at-home order has been in place, these people have put their energy into 3rd gear to make sure that no child has to go without. The passion behind that is miraculous and has been amazing to be a part of! Now you ask, what do we need from you and your kiddos? On May 1st, School Lunch Hero Day, have your student post a video simply saying thank you and maybe what the meals have meant to them. Another option would be to take a photo of your child with a drawn picture/kind words to the cafeteria staff as well. What would be even more cute is if they had some type of "superhero" outfit on in the picture or video! Tag @Aramark in your post! These woman and men deserved all the attention and thank you's possible! Please realize just how powerful there dedication has been through all of this! This helps ensure that when we deliver the meals and/or updated packets we can retrieve the completed work without making physical contact as well.

Parents: want to challenge your student to a Quickslither game? We have a special log in just for you www.reflexmath.com you will log in as a student. Your teacher name is ahgs then click on the For Parents class. You will see add/subtract parent. Click on that, the password is ahgs. This will let you play around on some of the games without increasing the facts your kiddo knows. (The system tracks the ones they have/haven't mastered on their accounts so using this would be helpful if they aren't at 100%.) Never tried to have more than one person log in at the same time on the same account so if you are playing and get kicked out, that could be the issue. We will cross our fingers that doesn't happen.
