Weekly Update

Good Evening,

I hope this week has treated you well. This new "normal" is sinking in and we are really missing our students. I am sure you still have tons of questions and I hope our frequent communication has helped with most of those. This week started off with an absolutely amazing parade from our local law enforcement, bus driver, and staff. The signs we saw along the route lifted spirits in more ways than we could ever explain. Thank you for letting your kiddos come out and wave at the teachers. We needed to see them and we needed them to see that our staff is constantly thinking of them and love them.

The teachers have been working hard preparing learning packets that will be handed out on Monday, March 30. This will be our first week of  "Remote Learning." Please remember we are very new to this and are goal is to provide engaging activities to help your children maintain concepts they have already been taught as well as adding new concepts. Teachers have been asked to provide 2-3 activities per subject area for your child to complete. It is very important that we work together during this time. Teachers will be available through email and I know some have set up some class meetings through Google Meet. We highly encourage your child to join in these meetings if they have access to do so. Packets will also be provided so students are able to complete work without having to get online.

Meal pick-up is from 9-11 am on Monday, March 30. We will have your student's packet in with the meals if you are picking up food. If you are not picking up meals we will be set up in the East parking lot from 3-5 pm for you to pick up learning packets. In the practice of social distancing we have established a procedure for picking up meals and packets. We ask that you please drive around in the East parking lot to form a line. We will check you in and then we ask that you pop open your trunk. At that time staff members will place your meals and/or packet in your trunk. We will then wave and let you know all of your things are loaded. By following this procedure we will eliminate physical contact and be able to stay the regulated 6 feet away to protect all people involved.

We are asking that each Monday following March 30 you return any completed work from the packets when you pick up the next week's materials. The return procedure will be for you to place any completed work in a bag, preferably a gallon zip lock bag, with your child's name, grade, and teacher written on it. Please place this bag in your trunk and when you drive through we will retrieve it when placing the new materials in your car. Thank you for your help in following these safety procedures.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and get to enjoy some time outside while practicing social distancing. We will get through this together and we will be stronger as a district. I have seen so many great things from our staff, parents, students, and community. Currently the school closure is through April 7, 2020. As always, when we get any updates from the state we will communicate that to you immediately.

Sincerely,

Kristin Nall, AHGS Principal
