Good morning Arthur CUSD #305 parents, staff, students and community members.  I hope you have had a great Summer up to this point and are enjoying time with your families.

As you may be aware there is a significant push from many Superintendents throughout the State to encourage Dr. Carmen Ayala (State Superintendent) and Governor Pritzker to grant school districts local control on decisions related to returning to school in the Fall.

Currently, there has been no guidance provided to the school districts throughout the state regarding what conditions we must adhere to for a return to in person instruction.  As a part of the push for local control for school districts a letter was created by Dr. Jeremy Larson and was shared with Superintendents throughout the State.  At last count, over 400 Superintendents signed the letter in support of local control to make decisions regarding the conditions for which we would return to school.  The letter was scheduled to be sent to Dr. Ayala and Governor Pritzker yesterday.  We are hopeful that through a collective and unified effort our requests will be listened to and considered.

I am providing a link for you to review the letter that was sent.  I am also providing a copy of another letter that you may feel free to use to express your support for local control.  I believe that our voices need to be heard and this is a great step to accomplish that goal.  Thanks for taking the time to read this message and consider sending an email with the letter provided.  I hope you enjoy the rest of your week and the rest of Summer.

Sincerely,

Shannon Cheek
