Good afternoon,

It’s here … our new, temporary, normal for school.  ALAH HS will begin remote learning on Monday. What does this mean?  It means that every student should be receiving 2 to 3 activities per week, per class to complete while at home.  We are pushing these out through email and Google Classroom. For those of you without the internet, we have paper packets for you that you will need to pick up on Monday.  (You will be receiving a reminder with details.) Students should be turning in assignments to their teachers each week. It is very important that your student completes their assignments and we really need your help with this.

Parents, I know this isn’t easy on any of you. I hear you, I get it.  The struggle is real. Our goal is not to add stress to your family. Our goal is to keep your student engaged in their education as we continue to be isolated.   As educators, we want to be in our building with your students. I would encourage you to help your student set a schedule. As high school students, they are capable of setting their own schedule, but need someone to tell their plans to and hold them accountable.  The temptation will be to complete it later. Instead we need students to be working on the work methodically and regularly. Encourage them to reach out to their teachers with questions. We are all new at this. Our faculty is available through their emails and most have shared cell phone numbers with their students.  We don’t expect you to know A&P or Pre-Calculus or grammar. We do expect our students to try, to ask questions and complete the work.

To the parents of our juniors ….the state has begun the process of waiving the required mandated tests.  This means no SAT in April for our juniors. As you know, we have been working hours and hours to prepare.  We are just as upset as you are. The state has said that by the end of April, they will let us know our options for juniors.  When we know, we promise to let you know. We are hoping that there will be a test date soon for our juniors to take and therefore we are encouraging them to keep practicing.  It is essential.

To the parents of our seniors:  please encourage your senior to KEEP finishing and submitting those scholarship applications.  Many have deadlines that are rapidly approaching. Mrs. Hart is available by email if they have questions, harta@cusd305.org

Please continue to watch your email for the sign-ups for breakfast/lunches and orders from our food pantry.  Breakfasts/lunches are picked up at the school of your choice on Mondays and food pantry orders are delivered to your home on Friday morning.

We have cancelled nothing … only postponing. Hoping that by everyone staying home, we will be able to be back to school sometime soon.  As the state provides more guidelines, we will let you know.

One last thought … I would ask you to consider encouraging your student(s) to do something kind for someone else during this time at home.  It may sound a little ‘cheesy’, but a random act of kindness, of course still following all of our new rules, often does the person doing more good than the one receiving. I know our Knights are very creative and  can make a difference, even from a distance!

Have a great weekend.
