Weekend Update Logo

Good afternoon Knight Families:

If you are like me, our annual Christmas Concert is a highlight of our year.  Nothing celebrates the holidays like watching our vocal and instrumental students perform.  This year's ALAH Holiday Concert is a collaboration among the Band, Percussion, and Chorus students. The students voted on which song they wanted to perform for this year’s virtual concert.  Each musician has carefully recorded an individual track for their part in Mariah Carey's “All I Want for Christmas is You.”  This includes all traditional students, remote learners, and any temporary remote learners that may arise. All 80 tracks will be edited together to create one cohesive song and video. Watch our social media for the live link!

As I mentioned last week our final exams have been  modified.  With students in and out of quarantine and so many other complications of school, we moved to providing students the option of taking final exams.  Students wanting to raise their grade will opt to take the final exam.  Below are a few of the highlights for December 17th and December 18th, our final exam days.

  • A student's semester grade cannot be negatively impacted by choosing to take a final exam.
  • Semester exams are 20% of a student’s semester grade with the first and second quarter each being 40%. If a student chooses not to take an exam, the quarter grades would be moved to 50% and 50%.
  • Teachers are taking the time to individually discuss with students what the best option is for them.
  • Teachers may give an exam during final exams that concludes their current unit or semester.
  • Dual credit classes have their own guidelines that still apply.
  • Attendance is mandatory for all students on final exam days except those that earned the SAT award.
  • Students will be allowed to leave after their 7th hour final on Friday, if they prefer.  Seventh hour finishes at 11:25.  We will serve lunch and then watch a movie and/or play games in the gym until the end of the day at 1:17.

Ms. Bright, our counselor, is planning study tables for students to study for their classes on Monday and Tuesday from 1:30- 3:00.  Students may join after school either virtually or in person.  There will be tutors available during this time as well.  Ms. Bright also presented a class on stress management this week to all of our PE classes. This was an informational presentation on how stress affects the body and what coping skills students can use. December can be a stressful time of year with finals and the holidays, so this was meant to give students ideas of ways they can take care of themselves during this busy time.

Our CEO class, Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities (CEO),  is continuing their class business of selling masks.  Here is the link if you would like to order.  CEO mask order form  Next semester they will begin focusing on their individual businesses.
