Hello Knight Family:

It is hard to believe we’re already heading into week six of school—time flies faster than high schoolers leaving the parking lot!  With 22 days already behind us, we’ll be at the semester’s midterm before we know it.  One of the biggest ways you can support your student’s success is simple: make sure they’re here.  Absences add up quickly.  Missing just 2 days a month means a student misses 10% of the school year, and that’s the state’s threshold for chronic absenteeism (excused or unexcused).  This week, our daily absence rate has ranged from 7.0% to 10.9%.  Good attendance is directly tied to academic success and graduating on time.  After all, school is a lot like a job—showing up every day is half the battle.

Our counseling department has worked this week to honor Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month.  Our students wrote down their biggest reasons for pushing through challenging times. Their powerful and honest responses, which highlighted everything from family to personal passions, are now displayed on a "Wall of Hope" outside of the main office.  We hope it serves as a source of comfort and inspiration for our entire school community.

We have a packed weekend for ALAH.  Our football team plays Cumberland tonight at Wilson Field, tomorrow the band heads to the University of Illinois to march with the Marching Illini and cheer them on, volleyball is hosting a JV tournament in the gyms, soccer takes on Teutopolis at Wilson Field and XC is running at PBL.  Good grief, I hope we have time for homework!

We are about two weeks from Homecoming Week and all the traditions that surround it.  A couple of notes to be aware about include that study hall is mandatory that week, we will probably be looking for extra supplies and/or donations and the parade on Friday is at 2p.m. More details coming soon.

And finally don’t forget….our high school students are selling discount cards packed with awesome deals from tons of local businesses.  Each card is just $20, and with every one sold, students earn $10 toward their senior trip.  Orders are due by Thursday, September 19th.  Find an ALAH HS Knight or call the office at 217-543-2146.  You may also order online at www.ruthieanddanafundraising.com.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Seegmiller
