Good morning Seniors and Parents:
As you have probably heard the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Public Health released new guidelines last weekend for graduation. With this information we received approval from our attorney, our insurance company, the Douglas County Health Department and our Board of Education for the following plans. We are excited to be able to provide an Individualized Drive Through Ceremony on Thursday, May 14th and Friday, May 15th. Using this venue allows for parents to be in the vehicle with the graduate and watch their student cross the stage. We will also be able to incorporate this into our virtual graduation. We know that this is a very distant second place to our traditional graduation. We are still hoping that we will be allowed to have a face to face graduation in June or July.
Students will sign up for an arrival time and vehicles will come through the designated driveway in the parking lot and pull up to the outdoor stage. Graduates, arriving in their cap and gown with their diploma, will exit their vehicle when it is their turn and cross the stage as their name is called. They will pose for their picture and then exit to the front of the school for a second photograph in front of the Knight’s head. Seniors will be provided two photographs free of charge along with the flash drive containing the virtual graduation.
Details for Seniors:
Diplomas need to be picked up Monday morning, May 11th between 9 and 11 in the circle drive. If you need your diploma delivered or to be picked up at a different time, please call me at 543-2146 or email seegmillers@cusd305.org.
Seniors will be permitted in the building on Monday, May 18th to return their school materials, gather all of their things and return their gowns. Seniors must sign up for May 18th.
Gowns need to be put back into their original labeled bag OR a bag with the student’s name on it. Students get to keep their caps and tassels. We will be storing the gowns and will re-distribute them if and when we are allowed to gather in the summer.
If you have concerns about transportation, please call me at 543-2146 to make arrangements.
Don’t forget to send in your graduation video! We need these by Friday, May 15th!
It has been an extraordinary finale for the graduating class of 2020 and one we will always remember. We understand how important this milestone is for parents and students and want to celebrate this amazing accomplishment in their lives even under these adverse conditions.
