Hello Knight Family:

I’d like to begin this week’s message with an important reminder.  We recently received a serious concern from a community member regarding some of our student drivers using their phones while leaving the school parking lot.  Whether they are headed to the crosswalk going east or any other direction, this is a scary situation.  Please take a moment to talk with your student about the dangers of texting and driving.  A quick message is never worth the risk — their safety, and the safety of others, depends on making responsible choices behind the wheel.  We are also talking about this issue next week in our flex periods.

Next week, Skyward will open for parents and guardians to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will be held on Wednesday, October 22, and Thursday, October 23.  We know it can sometimes feel like parents of high schoolers don’t need to attend conferences — but we truly want you here!  These conversations are a great way to stay connected, celebrate your student’s growth, and work together to support their success.  You may sign up for all of your student’s teachers or just one.  This year, we’re adding a new twist: students will share their own reflections on how they’re doing in each class.  It’s a meaningful opportunity for them to take ownership of their learning and for you to hear their perspective firsthand.

And in case you wondered, here are the 5 reasons why parents should attend a P/T Conference:

  1. Stay Informed: Get a clear picture of how your student is doing academically and socially — beyond what shows up on a grade report.

  2. Work as a Team: Teachers and parents share the same goal — helping your student succeed. Conferences are a great way to strengthen that partnership.

  3. Spot Challenges Early: Small issues can grow into big ones if we don’t catch them early.  Conferences help us address concerns before they become problems.

  4. Celebrate Success: Take time to hear what your student is doing well — the effort, growth, and progress that might not always make it home in conversation.

  5. Because Your Teen Can’t “Forget” to Tell You This Time: Hear directly from their teachers — no middleman, no mysterious missing messages!

On Tuesday after 4 p.m., you may login into your Skyward account and click on the tile that says “Conferences.”  You can schedule time with every teacher as you wish.  We are able to offer conferences in person, by phone or through Google Meets.  If you prefer you can call 543-2146 and we will assist you with scheduling.

Today, your student received the opportunity to apply for the Principal’s Advisory Committee.  This committee is a group of students to join my Principal's Advisory Committee — a team that helps shape the future of our school!  Together, we’ll talk about things that make ALAH a great place to learn, ideas for making it even better, and ways to make sure every student feels valued and heard.  We’ll meet once or twice a month during study hall throughout the school year to share ideas, solve problems, and make a difference.  Please encourage your student to apply.  Applications are due in the office by Friday, October 17th.

On Friday, October 17, we will be having our Active Intruder Drill.  This drill is required by law and allows us to practice different scenarios presented to students and staff so they may decide how to react.  A firearm will NOT be used in this drill.  This drill will NOT include simulations that mimic an actual school shooting incident or active shooter event.  Next week you will receive an email with more specific information.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Seegmiller
