Hello Knight Family:

It has certainly been an unusual week at ALAH.  From Monday’s surprise snow and a stubborn boiler issue to Tuesday’s Veterans Day events and school improvement work, it hardly felt like a typical week of school.  Yet despite the curveballs, our students and staff showed flexibility, focus, and a whole lot of teamwork—reminding me once again what makes this community so strong.

This year’s Veterans Day events brought out the very best of our school community.  Our committee—Mr. Kroeck, Mr. McClarey, Mrs. Uphoff, Mrs. Voegel, Ms. Burton, and Mr. Seal—helped coordinate a program that involved more than 75 students.  FFA members led the ceremony and partnered with the Military Service Club to present the colors, while our FACS and FCCLA students prepared and served a meal for about 35 community guests.  The band, chorus, and NHS students also contributed through performances and guest support.  After the program, our high school students joined AGS students to write letters to currently serving alumni and Honor Flight veterans who might not otherwise receive mail—thank you to AGS for taking part in this meaningful project.  We also recognized two outstanding seniors, Anna Rawlins and Karaline Vanausdoll, as our DAR/SAR Good Citizens Award recipients for exemplifying dependability, leadership, patriotism, and service.

To round out an already packed week at ALAH, our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams kicked off their seasons with the Red & Gold Showcase on Thursday, and the girls will open at home on Monday evening.  Even more exciting, the Knights will compete in Round 3 of the football playoffs on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Westville!  There will be a police escort out of town on Saturday morning at 10 a.m., with the team bus traveling up to 36 and over to Chrisman.  We invite everyone to line the streets and help send them off in true Knight fashion.

Have a great weekend and LET’S  GO KNIGHTS!
