Happy Summer, Knight Families!

If you've been wondering where the weekly emails have been, don't worry—I haven't given them up!  We've simply been distracted with the packing, moving into Lovington Grade School, unpacking, watching 100 + years of history come down one wall at a time and the start of the next 100 years being constructed.

New Address. Same Knights. Same Mission.  This is our mantra right now! While our mailing and classroom addresses have changed, our mission hasn't changed!  Everything that makes us ALAH High School will still be a part of our year. We'll still cheer on the Knights on Friday nights. We'll still celebrate concerts, FFA, FCCLA, drama productions, and academic accomplishments. We'll still challenge students to grow, build relationships, and prepare for life after high school. And yes...there will still be algebra tests.

Even with the excitement (and occasional chaos) of moving to a new space, our students haven't missed a beat. We have been busy all summer long getting everything ready for our upcoming fall activities. Volleyball players have been lifting, running, and competing in summer matches. Football players have been in the weight room and on the field for summer contact days. Soccer players have been sharpening their skills and building team chemistry. And have you noticed our cross country runners taking over the sidewalks around town?!  And it's not just athletics keeping busy, our Student Council has already begun planning Homecoming, and our cheerleaders are hard at work preparing routines to bring plenty of Knight spirit this fall.  Different address. Same Knights. We can't wait to see our students back in action—it is shaping up to be a fantastic fall!

Below are a few summer updates, important dates, transportation information, and reminders as we continue preparing for the first day of school. I'll plan to send another update around the first week of August as we get even closer to welcoming everyone back. As always, please feel free to call or email, if you have any questions.

Transportation Information:

School Hours: 8:15 a.m. – 3:13 p.m.

The plan for morning arrival to school:

Shuttle departure times will be announced in August.

If your student lives in Arthur and walks to school:

  • Walk to Arthur Grade School and ride the shuttle to Lovington Grade School.

If your student lives in the Arthur countryside area :

  • Ride their regular bus to Arthur Grade School, then transfer to a shuttle to Lovington Grade School.

If your student lives in the Atwood-Hammond area:

  • Bus pick-up locations and times remain the same. Students will ride the shuttle directly to Lovington Grade School.

If your student lives in Lovington and walks to school:

  • Walk directly to Lovington Grade School.

If your student lives in the Lovington countryside:

  • Bus pick-up locations remain the same, with transportation directly to Lovington Grade School.

The plan for afternoon Dismissal

  • School dismisses at 3:13 p.m. Students riding shuttle buses will be dismissed as their shuttle arrives.

  • HS students who ride the bus home to their country home in Lovington will wait for the shuttle bus from Arthur Grade School to arrive and then ride their bus home.

Athletics Transportation:

  • Practices:  High School Volleyball, Girls Basketball, and Boys Basketball will practice at Atwood-Hammond.  Students not driving will ride the transfer bus from Lovington to Atwood.  Football players will ride the shuttle to Arthur.

  • Competitions: With the exception of football, all high school teams will depart from Lovington Grade School for away contests. Football teams will continue to depart from the football field in Arthur.  Whenever possible, buses traveling to and from away contests will make scheduled pickup and drop-off stops at Arthur Grade School and Atwood-Hammond Grade School when the travel route passes through those communities. This will help reduce travel time for students and families.

Where are our home competitions?

  • Volleyball and all basketball games will be at Atwood Hammond Grade School.

  • Football, soccer and track contests will be at Wilson Field in Arthur.

  • Golf and Cross-Country will remain the same.

  • Baseball games at LGS.

  • Softball games will be at Atwood Park.

LOCKERS

  • We have a limited number of lockers while at LGS.  If your student would like a locker, they may email Ms. Redfern at redfernd@cusd305.org to reserve one.

Other changes/reminders:

  • We will assign parking spaces during the first week of school.  We will follow the same system as previous years beginning with seniors, then by birthdate, moving to juniors by birthdate, etc.  Parking passes must be paid for prior to being assigned a space.  New drivers may purchase their parking pass once they have their driver’s license and car.

  • Drinks:  Students will only be allowed to have water with them and it must be in a clear closed container.  Students will be provided with a water bottle at the beginning of the year to help make the transition easier.

  • All students will have closed campus lunch.  Students are allowed to bring their lunch and we have microwaves available for their use.  There will be seating in the cafeteria plus a few other spots in and around the building.  Students will NOT be allowed to eat in their cars.

  • One fun addition we're hoping to offer this year are monthly food trucks on campus! Students will have the opportunity to purchase lunch from the food truck, while our regular school lunch will continue to be available as well on these days.  Remind students to save those dollars from their summer jobs!

Now that is a lot of information!  As always, let us know if you have questions or need anything.
