Dear Knight Families,
The Knights are on athletic fire! It has been a great couple of weeks for Knight athletics, with big wins happening across the board. Football is 2-0 and faces Tri-County tonight at 7:00 p.m. Cross country has really been battling the heat, with the girls finishing second at St. Thomas Moore and Beau Green taking first and Colton Snyder finishing fifth. They race again tomorrow morning at EIU. Soccer is 5-1 and will face Meridian Tuesday at Wilson Field, while varsity volleyball remains undefeated after big wins over Mt. Zion and St. Teresa. Tomorrow, they hit the road for the Olney Tournament.
And that is just the beginning! Behind every game are our freshman and JV teams, coaches, trainers, maintenance crews, and countless others working behind the scenes to make these opportunities possible for our students. There is a lot to celebrate, and it is a great time to be a Knight! #GoKnights
On Thursday, September 10th, we will have our first School Improvement (SIP) Day. These days give our faculty time to focus on important work that helps us continue to improve teaching and learning. This month, we will have a speaker working with the district on the use of AI in Education. The high school will dismiss at 12:00 noon. Lunch will be served at 11:30, and students who do not wish to stay for lunch may leave campus at that time. Buses will run at the regular 12:00 noon dismissal. Of course, students are welcome to stay and enjoy lunch at school before heading home!
Does your student need a little help with math or English? Your student does not have to struggle through an assignment alone! Every day during study hall, our Math & Writing Center is open and ready to help. Students can work with an English or math teacher, or with one of our student coaches who are excellent in these subjects and eager to help. It is a great resource for getting unstuck, asking a question, or simply getting a little extra confidence before turning in an assignment. Students may sign up using the link in the daily announcements or through their student bookmarks. Sometimes, a little help is all it takes!!
I am still looking for a volunteer to help with our Homecoming Class Cookout on Friday, September 25th! This is a lot more about rallying and organizing a few parents and less about carrying the entire workload. We specifically need a sophomore and a junior parent to take the lead but would love to add a few more names to all the class lists! If you are interested in helping in any way, please email me at seegmillers@cusd305.org.
Start now, thank yourself later! The senior trip is one of our favorite ALAH traditions, and we want our students to make it happen! Next Tuesday, we will kick off several opportunities for students to earn money toward their senior trip, including our discount card fundraiser and a chance to work at The Great Pumpkin Patch in October. The message is simple: don’t wait until winter of senior year to start thinking about how you will pay for the trip. Start now, take advantage of the opportunities, and thank yourself later!
A reminder to all senior parents….there is a Senior Parent Meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at the high school. We will cover all things regarding senior year. At 7 p.m., we are inviting all parents that have a college bound senior to stay for a financial aid workshop presented by Lake Land College. (This isn’t just for Lake Land College bound seniors.) The meeting is aimed towards parents, but seniors are welcome to attend.
You can’t learn what you miss and everyday in school is a day that matters. Our attendance rate this week was 93% with our highest today at 98%! Our school goal is to be above 90%!
