Dear Knight Families,
What a week we have had at ALAH HS! From an all-school assembly kicking off our Small Change Makes a Big Difference campaign to our juniors taking a practice ACT, there has been plenty happening around the building. Our Leadership class helped raise awareness and funds for breast cancer by hosting a Knock Out Tournament and selling pink cupcakes and lemonade, Student Council sponsored a costume contest, our boys' and girls' cross country teams advanced to sectionals, our volleyball team brought home a Regional Championship, and our football team is headed into the playoffs this weekend! And, of course, in between all of that, we managed to squeeze in a few ordinary school activities like geometry, civics, and reading Lord of the Flies. Just another busy week of being a Knight!
Congratulations to our DAR and SAR Good Citizens, Brynlee Moore and Nathan Rafferty. These two seniors were chosen by the faculty based on their patriotism, service, dependability and leadership. Brynlee is our student council president, senior class president, captain of the volleyball team and is always planning an event for our student body. Nathan has volunteered over 60 hours through his high school year, including countless hours with the American Legion, participated in the military service club and has committed to joining the US Air Force.
Next week is a little unusual. We have either two Mondays or two Fridays… I guess it just depends on how you look at it! Just a reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL on Tuesday as schools are required by the state to be closed on Election Day.
To keep things interesting, we are also kicking off our Small Change Delay Contest! We are asking students to bring in their spare change as we work toward filling a water jug by the end of the month. So, dig through those couch cushions, empty those piggy banks, and start collecting every coin you can find! Every penny, nickel, dime, and quarter will add up. All proceeds will be donated to our local fire departments. It's a fun way to make a little change that can make a BIG difference in our community! And might earn your students a ‘delay in class starting’!
Did I mention that on Wednesday we will have an ice cream sundae bar for our entire student body to celebrate the Exemplary Designation earned by our faculty and students? We are excited to celebrate this accomplishment together! As you can see, even with no school on Tuesday, we have plenty happening in our classrooms the other four days of the week. There is still a lot of learning taking place, and we don't want anyone to miss a day!
