ALAH Weekend Update

Hello Knight Family:

Have you scheduled your parent teacher conferences yet?  Wait, your student is in high school, are parent teacher conferences necessary?  We say yes!  Parent teacher conferences are essential and every teacher wants you to join them.  Teachers spend so much time with your students, they would love to share their insight with you about their strengths, areas of concern, what to work on, ideas for future classes, where they see your student in the future …there really is so much to talk about!  It’s a great opportunity for all of us to partner together.  Conferences are available in-person, by phone or virtually.!   You can make your conference appointments through Skyward (here is a quick video on how) or call the high school office at 217-543-2146 and we will take care of those details!

During parent teacher conferences, we will also be hosting a senior parent informational meeting in the cafeteria from 6:00-6:30 and then there will be a FAFSA Completion workshop in a computer lab to help parents complete the FASFA paperwork. Completing the FASFA is a graduation requirement in the state of Illinois and we are happy to help with any questions.

Did you know that every student is required to complete two service hours each year of high school for a total of eight hours. This is a graduation requirement.  These hours must be completed during their own time and cannot be a part of another project/required activity. Once students have completed those service hours,we encourage them to complete more.  There are several ways extra hours are beneficial. First, the state of Illinois wants every junior and senior to have 25  hours to be considered College and Career Ready.  Second, extra hours will look good on college and scholarship applications.  Finally, if you are considering applying to be in our National Honor Society, you need to earn more than the minimum of 2 hours each year.  There are many opportunities for service hours.  This week alone there have been three opportunities for students to earn these hours.  Please encourage your student to listen to the announcements and watch for emails about service opportunities as they arise.

This weekend is a busy one for our Knights.  We have our final home football game on Friday night with a freshmen tailgate before kick off and we are recognizing our senior band and cheerleaders.  Then check out the schedule for Saturday!  The first bus leaves at 5:30 am.  Now that is dedication by our students and faculty!

Don’t forget that Wednesday and Thursday we have 2:00 dismissals and no school on Friday!
