Weekend Update Logo

Hello Knight Family:

The weather certainly has felt more like February than March/April this week, but our activities are sticking with the spring.  I am sure softball, baseball and track will get to compete someday, soon!

This weekend our Drama Club is presenting, The Alibis.   The Alibis happens when eccentric billionaire J. Leslie Arlington is murdered and a clueless detective finds the suspects are all reluctant to admit their alibis . . . because they were all committing other ridiculous crimes at the time. You never know what's coming next when the suspects include disgruntled chefs, obsessed scholars, and a crooked lawyer, but one thing's for certain: Every alibi is absolutely absurd. Tryouts were held in December and our cast has  been memorizing lines and rehearsing in every free moment possible.  We are excited to watch their performances this weekend. Shows are on Saturday at 4pm and Sunday at 2pm in the east high school gymnasium. Tickets are available at the door and are $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students.

We have started using a new feature in Skyward to help communicate more with families.  If your student has a discipline incident (too many tardies, skipping class, etc.), you will receive an email sharing this information with you when it is entered. Of course we always encourage you to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

Next weekend Fine Arts Boosters is hosting their annual Dessert Theater on Saturday evening.  Our incredibly talented musicians, vocalists and artists will be showcasing their talents. There is also a silent auction and a celebrity pie auction. All proceeds go to camps, scholarships, awards and program needs. Doors open at 6:15 and the show starts at 7 pm.

On Wednesday, April 13th, ALAH HS will be in test mode!  Our state mandated testing will be for all freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Freshmen will be taking the PSAT 9 and sophomores the PSAT 10.  Both of these tests will end before lunch.  Our juniors will be taking the capstone test of their high school career, the infamous SAT.  Juniors are allowed to leave after they finish their test, usually around 1:15.  Freshmen and sophomores will have an afternoon that doesn’t involve their traditional classes, in other words a more relaxed afternoon. Please encourage your student to get a good night’s rest the night before the exam and to eat breakfast before they arrive!  It’s a long day and we want all of our students to be able to perform the best that they can.

Our seniors have a fun day planned!  They will be participating in our Etiquette Workshop which will be held off campus.  Our day will include preparing for the next 8 weeks, including graduation information, schedules for the month of May, senior trip updates, etc. We will also have a workshop by Kim Morrison of the U of I Extension Office on manners, everything from cell phones to handshakes to eating, and then a class picture behind the high school on the hill.

Two important deadlines for seniors:

  • All money for the senior trip needs to be turned in on Monday morning!

  • FAFSA Forms and Service Hours need to be completed by Wednesday, April 27th.

If you haven’t noticed, when April arrives time moves at warp speed.  Please encourage your student to continue to work hard and finish the semester strong.

Sincerely,

Steffanie Seegmiller, Principal Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School
