Hello Knight Family:
A huge shout out to our kitchen staff who worked for days to prepare an all school Thanksgiving Feast yesterday (Thursday)! There was turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cooked cinnamon apples, breadsticks and pumpkin fluff for dessert! We had a record number of students and faculty enjoy this delicious meal. It is a fun tradition and we can hardly wait for the Holiday meal in December.
Earlier this fall we received funds from the Timm Trust to purchase two more sets of Virtual Reality (VR) goggles. Mr. Smith and Mrs. Benedict have been working to use these in Mrs. Benedict’s Anatomy and Physiology class. An example of how they are able to use these is to be able to look at specific body systems and identify parts. Students will have the opportunity to do this in the model mode or in a cadaver mode, which is their choice. While a student is utilizing the goggles their partner is able to see what they see on a computer. The VR goggles may be used in all sorts of classes, not just science! Think about visiting the Great Pyramids of Giza or seeing what it is like to be color blind or even what it feels like to have Dementia. These are all possible with VR!
Throughout the week I have been meeting with each class individually. I spoke with them about a variety of topics including asking what the reputation of their class is and what they want it to be, participation in extracurricular activities, utilizing the math and writing center and study halls, preparation for final exams and the importance of fundraising for their senior trip. One class had over 90% of their students who had participated in at least one extracurricular activity during the fall - that’s impressive!
Thanksgiving break starts on Wednesday, November 23rd and runs through November 27th. It may sound a little ‘cheesy’ but ALAH HS has so much to be thankful for with our faculty, staff, students, families and communities. Working together through this semester with all of you makes us stronger. We appreciate everyone’s involvement at our extracurricular events, open houses, conferences and everything in between. Thank you for all you do for ALAH HS. We hope you all have a wonderful break and will see you on the 28th! The next weekly email won’t be until December 2nd, so below you will find a list of activities for two weeks. Yes, December is really right around the corner.
